Muslim narratives of desistance among Norwegian street criminals: Stories of reconciliation, purification and exclusion

چکیده
Stories about sin, regret and forgiveness are fundamental in Islam other world religions. Islamic revivalism mediates a redemption narrative tailored to street criminals who want break with the cycle of stigmatization, imprisonment violence. Drawing on so-called conversion narratives, this article examines repertoire such stories among male Norway turn, or ‘return’, Islam. I have identified three types: reconciliation, purification exclusion. explore content these work they do for tellers their audiences. Arguably, types represent forms desistance that open up restrict particular paths into out crime.
